Cranberries

Cranberries are red, tart berries from the same plant family as blueberries and lingonberries. They grow on a hardy shrub that thrives in most of the Nordic region, particularly in bogs and on moss. Cranberries owe their name to the fact that cranes favor them as a food source.
Cranberries can be eaten directly in their dried form or used to make juice, jam, jelly, and similar products. Cranberries are attributed with many health benefits. One of the most well-known is that cranberries and cranberry juice have been shown to help prevent urinary tract infections.

Rowan Berries: Tasty and Healthy Vitamin Bombs

We may not immediately think of rowan berries as something delicious we'd love to eat, but think again! Rowan berries are incredibly healthy, packed with vitamin C, minerals, and antioxidants.
If you’ve never tasted rowan berries before, you’ll probably be surprised. Pick them after one or a few frosty nights, and most of their otherwise slightly sour taste will disappear.
If you're not a big fan of the bitter and sour flavor, you can prepare the berries in various ways to make them sweeter and more palatable.

The winner of the recipe competition!

Pike, cream and dill – this is the tastiest main course in Ostrobothnia!

A dish that combines minced pike, cream and dill with potatoes, among other things, became a winning concept in the recipe competition Ostrobothnia on the plate. The province's tastiest main course is called "Björka's pike mince sauce" and is prepared by Rosita Björk from Jungsund, Korsholm.
The winner of the recipe competition was crowned on the National Local Food Day on Saturday 7 September at Älvtorget in Veikars, Mustasaari.

Sea Buckthorn – Our Native Super Berry

In recent years, sea buckthorn has gained recognition as a true super berry, and rightfully so. Compared to other berries, its total content of both Vitamin C and various carotenoids is exceptionally high. The Vitamin C content in sea buckthorn has been measured at more than twice that of strawberries and more than 10 times higher than in lingonberries and blueberries.
